Piston aircraft burn avgas in reciprocating engines rather than jet fuel in turbines. That single difference drives everything else about the class. What a piston charter day looks like on the ground
Departure is the part that converts people. You arrive at a reliever-field FBO fifteen to twenty minutes before the scheduled time, park thirty yards from the door, and walk out to the airplane. There is no security queue, no gate, no boarding group. On a quiet Tuesday at Aurora or Lewis University the whole sequence from car door to engine start runs under ten minutes, and that compression of dead time is most of what you are buying at this end of the market.
Loading is more hands-on than in a jet. The pilot will want a look at the bags, because the nose compartment and the aft locker have separate weight limits and the airplane balances differently depending on where things go. Expect to be told where to sit rather than to choose, and expect that instruction to be firm.
